Wooden Snow Man Ornaments And Creating Meaning

F O R W A R D

I believe one of the most exciting and beautiful things about life, is the magnanimous shifts that can occur with such a simple a thing as a small decision. With nothing more than a whisper of a proclamation, we create massive ripples of fate - punctuation marks within the minds and hearts of our children.

What do I mean, life’s punctuation marks?

When I was small, I rarely wanted to run to the store to purchase gifts for loved ones for holidays, birthdays etc. Instead, I would scour my room top to bottom to find something that was so precious to me, that I believed that my love and adoration would seep from this cherished gift into the person I cared for deeply, and that they would feel this and love it also. I still do this. And without knowing I created a comma within my son’s life - for now he too roams his room looking for the most meaningful of items, so precious to him that it would make even the stranger passing by the most gleeful of humans. I created a comma, for now he pauses to find true meaning to the action and word of “gift”. He receives exultation from creating with his hands.

Our lives are still very unpredictable at this point and within a few months we could be across the country. This means that I really was not in any mood to be digging through the attic in search of boxes that could at this point merely be engulfed in mold (our roof failed last winter). I am anything but disappointed, as I wanted to create all of our ornaments from nature or simple materials this year. While out at a craft store, I found some wooden balls and thought that they would make the most adorable snowmen + a hands on craft for my son, so we made it as great of a time as we could.

I put on some 1940’s holiday songs, made our cacao moon milk and got to work.

Simply use the hot glue and add a dot to the top of sphere 1.

Stack second sphere, ensuring that it is as centered as possible and repeat this step until you have 3 spheres resembling your snow man body.

At this point you can use a sharpie (which is easier for the littlest ones) or your paint, and paint on your eyes, buttons and carrot noes.

Cutting a piece of twine, I created a loop and dabbed a bit of hot glue on to fuse it.

I then added a very tiny bit of glue to the top of the snowman and pressed the twine down to create a hanging loop.

We added candy cane colored pipe cleaners to mimic a scarf! but you could also create bowties from string, or whatever your creativity inspires.
